UPDATE: Berkeley Construction Verdict

The verdict is in on the UC Berkeley v. Tree Huggers ‘R’ Us trial, and the winner is… everyone? An Alameda Superior Court judge issued a complicated ruling that will allow the university to continue construction on the $125 million sports facility but with several, mostly undisclosed stipulations. As far as that pesky earthquake danger goes, the judge decided that the building in its entirety won’t be situated on the active fault, so no laws are being violated. To appease protesters worried about the fate of the oaks, the campus has vowed to plant three trees for every one chopped down during construction. Naturally, the tree-sitters aren’t satisfied with this promise. Something tells me there’s more poop-flinging, figuratively and literally, to come.
