From the Dartmouth News:

Following an April 18 arrest on Lebanon Street, Hanover Police requested a search warrant to determine whether the odor of marijuana was from illegal substances still in [the suspect’s] vehicle. The warrant was granted the next morning. While searching the vehicle, Hanover Police discovered a small amount of “green vegetative matter,” which the officers subsequently sent to a laboratory for testing

Read the transcript of the officer’s discussion after the jump. .

Officer 1: I think this is marijuana.

Officer 2: Yeah looks like that to me, boss. Smells like it, too.

Officer 1: Hmmm . . . On the other hand, it could just be green vegetative matter.

Officer 2
: What?

Officer 1: Yeah, green vegetative matter. It smells like marijuana, but it’s not marijuana, it’s actually just a substance like Ginseng. You put it in tea and smoothies and stuff. Helps make you stronger. My son carries it around with him all the time. He can’t get enough of it!

Officer 2: Right. . .Green. . . vegetative matter. Um, sir, I hate to break it to you, but—

Officer 1: Break what to me?

Officer 2: Um. . .never mind. You’re right. it’s probably just green vegetative matter. We should send this in for tests just in case, though.

Officer 1: Good thinking.
