Into this dark and dreary January, Kiplinger has thrown a beam of light by publishing its yearly list of Best Value in Public Colleges. The top ten winners for in-staters are:

  1. UNC Chapel Hill
  2. University of Florida
  3. University of Virginia
  4. University of Georgia
  5. College of William and Mary
  6. SUNY Geneseo
  7. SUNY Binghamton
  8. New College of Florida
  9. University of Maryland College Park
  10. UC San Diego

The Best Value Top 10 for out-of-staters is similar:

  1. SUNY Binghamton
  2. SUNY Geneseo
  3. UNC Chapel Hill
  4. University of Florida
  5. Truman State
  6. College of New Jersey
  7. UC San Diego
  8. University of Virginia
  9. College of William and Mary
  10. University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
