Summer Reading

books.jpgEvery time I get a break from school, I make a reading list. At the top of it is the book that I would be reading at the time, and the rest of the list would be the books that have been accumulating on my bookshelf. I have always been a reader, Judy Blume got me through middle school and Sarah Dessen got me through high school. I fell in love with a vampire with Bella, cracked the Da Vinci Code with Robert Langdon, dreamt of being A Catcher in the Rye with Holden Caulfield, basked Under the Tuscan Sun with Frances, had Great Expectations with Pip, roamed an Animal Farm with Old Major, became a Shopaholic with Rebecca, lived in fear of Boo Radley with Scout and Jem, and learned spells with Harry Potter.

My favorite show ever is Gilmore Girls. The character Rory is an avid reader and in each episode she’s reading a different book, which is probably why I like to read so much. In my lifetime I’ve probably read probably 40 or 50 books, which is only a fraction of the books Rory read, but no matter how many books are on my “already read” list, my “want to read” list keeps growing and growing and I cannot seem to top it. I think the main reason I keep getting set back is because I don’t make time to read. It’s so hard these days, between school, homework, family, work, and squeezing in eight hours of sleep. I used to read before I went to sleep, but at the end of the day, I’m so tired that I’m asleep after ten minutes.

I’m in a leadership program at school, and author Lynette Lewis is coming next week and I have to make a good dent in her book, Climbing the Ladder in Stilettos by the tenth, which has set back my progress on Shopaholic and Sister for a minute. I plan to start Breaking Dawn by mid-October. I think another reason my list keeps growing is because I keep adding to it, but there’s just so much to read! So tell me, Internet-Land, am I the only one who does this?

P.S. Let me give you a sample of what’s on my list:

Basic Black by Cathie Black, Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer, Something Blue and Baby Proof by Emily Giffin, Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks, and He’s Just Not That Into You by Greg Behrendt, among others.
