Punk the Student Day!

Yet another pivotal election today, and you know what that means: It’s time to punk the youth vote!

At liberal Grinnell College in Iowa, 50 students’ registrations are being challenged because of address confusion. As in, these voters put down one campus address instead of another. Does this make sense? To the Republicans trying to keep a tight House race from tilting to the Dems, it sure does, you betcha.

The students in question reside in Iowa House District 75, where a heated campaign is being waged between incumbent Democrat Eric Palmer and Republican Danny Carroll. In 2004, the same matchup was decided by a little more than 300 votes — in Carroll’s favor. … Grinnell students have a long history of supporting Democratic candidates. The elimination of 50 votes could tip the balance of the election to Carroll.

Fun! Who else? Ooh, look, Virginia’s George Mason University wants in. Someone there played an awesome “joke” on the student body by spamming 35,000 potential voters with disinformation:

The short message, which looked as if it came from the office of Provost Peter N. Stearns, was addressed to the Mason Community at large: “Please note that election day has been moved to November 5th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.”

Even though I didn’t go to journalism school, I know that two stories don’t make a trend. Anyone have a third story of voter suppression on campus to share?
