Some Quaker students have done a very un-Friendly thing to the likeness of Barack Obama and the campus is up in arms. Despite the similarity of the names George Fox and Guy Fawkes (a British holiday that is all about torturing some dude in effigy), George Fox University students insist that they do not habitually treat black people like this:
“Yesterday was not a good example of what it means to follow Jesus,” [one student] said. … Foglio said the majority of students appear to welcome their minority classmates. “We are not in Georgia, Mississippi or Louisiana,” she said. “We are in Oregon…To have this happen is really disappointing.”
While it’s encouraging that the fake-lynching is being roundly condemned, it’s also disappointing that anyone still thinks all the racists in America are conveniently located in the deep South. The Klan walks among us, kidlets.
