Even though some New Englanders are still frozen in from last week’s killer ice storm, local college applicants might be getting a bigger break than the tree branches right about now. So far, the following schools are reporting that they’ve extended their deadlines to accommodate anyone still iced under:
- The University of Rochester will extend their Jan. 1 deadline to Jan. 9, if your school is still closed by storm damage.
- Boston College students can call the Admissions Office (800-360-2522) and request a deadline extension if their school has been affected.
- Wesleyan University applicants still without power or unable to get to school can get a break on both Regular and Early Decision II deadlines by contacting the admissions office.
Don’t see your hopeful future alma mater on the list? Try contacting admissions offices directly to see if they’ll bend the deadlines to help you out. Then again, you’ve already had the week off of school to perfect your essays–you may have had to do it by candlelight and on some old-fashioned notebook paper, but any extra time for proofreading and de-icing is totally a silver lining to those storm clouds.
