More Tree-Sitters Abandon Berkeley Oaks

It looks like UC Berkeley’s tree troubles are climbing their way down. Four more tree-sitters have come down from the oak groves this week, leaving only three more protesters perched. The protesters occupied the trees in opposition to UC Berkeley’s plans to construct a new athletic facility. An earlier court verdict ruled mostly in the university’s favor, which left many, especially the tree-sitters, dissatisfied.
According to the Mercury News, a judge is set to rule whether or not the school can begin construction on July 17. Until then, UC Berkeley will continue to supply the tree-dwellers with water and energy bars to try to appease them. The university stopped giving them real food, in hopes they would relent. And give up their 15 minutes of fame? Never! I say if the school wants to get ‘em outta there quick, mobilize the students. Berkeley kids hate sharing the spotlight.
