Followers of the Berkeley Oaks/athletic facility saga - it looks like the end is near. After more than a year of protesting tree-sitters, lawsuits, angry students and 40,000 pages of documentation, a judge has ruled to lift the injunction that has derailed the university from constructing a new sports facility.
An earlier verdict left many questions about the fate of the facility unanswered. The judge’s latest ruling, however, ensures that Berkeley will be able to resume construction, even if the plaintiffs decide to appeal. UC Berkeley’s executive director of public affairs released a statement saying:
“We are very pleased with this decision and see it as confirmation that everything the university has done in connection with this project is fully compliant with the law and completely consistent with our desire to provide our student athletes with safe and suitable facilities.”
Yeah… plus we were running out of tree puns.
