If you’re wailing about college tuition, blow your nose and get a grip. Paying tens of thousands of dollars isn’t your only path to higher ed: some universities, like Cooper Union, are free.

This is no joke! Cooper Union charges $0 for tuition, and though room and board aren’t free, the university offers financial aid. The miracle school does it by investing in real estate, instead of the stock market, and using the earnings to support its students.

The only catch: since Cooper Union offers such a ridiculous deal, it’s also ridiculously hard to get in. Early decision applications increased 70 percent over the past year — and they were already low, at eight percent. But Cooper Union isn’t the only tuition-free college, so don’t give up!
