Young Democrats, we know there are a lot of you, and you’re super-excited right now. But let’s be sensitive to our Republican friends today. It wasn’t too long ago that you were the ones waking up on the losing side, hurrying to take down those Kerry/Edwards signs before you started crying again. How are the 3 out of 10 college students who voted for McCain holding up?
- The William Woods University student who blogs at Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman has compiled some tragic Facebook status messages from some Republican friendsters, including “Stocking up because we’re screwed,” “can only sit aside and sob as I watch the country fall apart and see people celebrating…” and “well yall wanted change and yall are about to see it, and it wont be good.” It’s like Shakespeare, but way more profanity.
- North Carolina State University’s student paper, the Technician, reports that walk-in counseling sessions will be available for students “if they are feeling down or distressed about their candidate losing.” Because the last thing you need to cry on is a shoulder that voted for Obama.
- And finally, from one of the only college newspapers to endorse McCain over Obama, a very gracious op-ed from the staff of the Daily Mississippian: “We hope the next four years will indeed bring change as promised – change for the better.” We should all be so classy after finding out we’ve backed the wrong maverick.
So keep on keepin’ on, College Republicans. Only four more years ’til you get another crack at being the most popular party on campus!
