Some schools spark controversy with their commencement speaker selections. But Northwestern University’s going for a different kind of shock-and-awe with the announcement that they won’t reveal who will be doing the talking at their graduation ceremony until it happens on June 20. University president Harry Bienan gave The Daily Northwestern some clues: 1) It’s an “extremely well-known” person; 2) it’s a dude; 3) it’s someone who doesn’t normally give commencement speeches; and 4) “his schedule isn’t revealed until a day in advance,” according to university spokesman Al Cubbage.

Northwestern’s rumor mill is serving up such unlikely candidates as reclusive Catcher in the Rye author J.D. Salinger, but we’ve got some theories of our own at The Prereq. One word: Santa. Read the rest of our wild speculation about who’ll be donning the purple gown after the jump.

Got a crazy theory of your own? Think you’ve broken the code? Let us know!
