From the Bay to El Lay

Hi there. Janet here. Here where? Well, as of June 18th where exactly I am depends on the day of the week. Monday-Thursday 7/8 a.m. to 3 p.m. I can be found most often in front of a computer at my office in (West) Los Angeles, CA.
Thursday 9 p.m. to Sunday 1 p.m. I’m at my permanent San Rafael, CA homestead. For those unfamiliar with the lay of the land, practically speaking, my aforementioned summer internship is on the opposite end of the state from my hometown.
12 +/-hours, 784 miles, and 3 tanks of gas are spent each week to live a kind of double life as a carefree, Bay Area young adult, and a savvy, L.A. “young professional.” Splitting my time between NorCal and SoCal wasn’t my original plan when I accepted the 6-week Production Assistant position, but I quickly realized allowing 392 miles of highway to put a pause on my social life in the midst of my summer was simply unacceptable…not to mention, tragically lonely-sounding.
So here I am. Just barely into week three of my internship, and already I have reason enough to trek back home for a fourth consecutive weekend. FBN will be filming in Sacramento on Monday, reporting on CA’s budget crisis, which means I’m headed home as soon as my workweek ends to make the most of my weekend stint in Northern California leading up to the live broadcast from the Capitol Building (10 a.m. EST). Admittedly, I’m not a complete stranger to traveling between either end of the state. I’m a rising junior at Pitzer College, located in Claremont, CA—an hour east of L.A.—pursuing a combined Organizational/Media Studies major, Economics minor…you can blame the liberal arts for that mouthful of a degree. From here on, check in with me every Thursday to get the latest on my week from the Bay back to El Lay.
