Fear the Bat

This week’s episode was wildly entertaining. Kevin, freaking out about a bat? Really? Reality check, dude—bats aren’t that scary. They’re just like birds. Very leathery, creepy-looking birds, I’ll give you that, but still, they eat insects. Not pretzels. Or Kevins.
It’s always fun to see how freshmen react to the real world. We all come into college with the same attitude—we know everything, our parents can’t possibly comprehend how much we are working and what we are going through, and especially how important guys/girls (or bats) are. But freshmen year is tough. As we saw with Kevin replacing dorm rules with bat issues, Andrea’s lack of church attendance, Lindsay struggling with satisfying her parents academically, Jordan believing that listening to Nickleback is a deal-breaker; either way, at some point we all realize how much we don’t know. The entertaining thing about College Life right now is that none of the characters have grown up quite yet. We still see the conflict, the mistakes, and the bats multiplying. Basically, the growing process. As a high school senior, we all think, “whatever, I’ll never be that stupid.” As a college senior, I have to stop and think, “No way, I wasn’t like that…wait…” and the memories set in: nights of beer pong in one room and drunk Rock Band in the other, etc., etc.
Simply put, I can’t wait to see more of the cast having moments like Andrea’s, because that’s when the growing really starts to kick in: that questioning, that wondering, those doubts. And the bats. I really want to see more of them.
