Our nation is abuzz with anticipation about tomorrow’s scheduled Presidential Debate #1 at Ole Miss — the school says it’s on, Obama says he’ll be there, and, though the bailout is finalized, no one’s heard from McCain — but possibly the folks most affected by all this drama are the members of the school band.

“It’s kind of an inconvenience, having to practice out here in this parking lot,” said Chris Patterson, 18, a bass drum player who is a freshman. “We can‘t get in the Band Hall” … it has been converted, this week, into a workspace for reporters and television producers who are covering the debate.

How awful! Still, surely the members of Pride of the South don’t really mind having to practice in the parking lot in order to do their patriotic duty? After all, the future President of the United States will be on their campus in a nationally televised event. That’s important, right?

According to Rebekah Tettleton, 20, a sophomore: “It’s fine.” And Julius Booth, 19, a sophomore, chimes in with a smile: “What do you think?”
