With Valentine’s Day a week away, some college students are loading up on saccharine gifts for their sweethearts. But if you’re single, buck up! In a column earlier this week, the Arizona Daily Wildcat’s Laura Donovan makes the case for staying solo: “Being single doesn’t translate into being weird or unwanted. In many cases, it’s just not worth it to start a relationship,” she writes. “There shouldn’t be a stigma against singles because it’s much more humiliating to be in a dead end, unhealthy relationship with a really bad person, and this kind of couple only stays together out of pure security.”

Plus, once you get pinned, you close off the chance to visit “the boom-boom room,” where, at Bowdoin College, “it doesn’t have to count if you don’t want it to”:
