College newspapers publishing joke issues on April 1 is standard. But a president responding with a joke of his own? Now that is newsworthy.

Every year, the College of Wooster’s student newspaper, The Wooster Voice, publishes an April Fool’s edition (The Wooster Vice). This year, President Grant Cornwell retorted with a letter announcing the Vice’s plan to introduce a free, campus-wide laundry service.

Student newspapers have always taken pride in uncovering and airing a college’s dirty laundry. Now the editors of the Vice have decided to take the logical next step, and return it clean, static-free, neatly folded, and with a hint of springtime freshness.

President Cornwell has a sense of humor on him — he even included fake quotes:

This new service from The Vice will eliminate the need for laundry rooms in the residence halls. Dean of Students Kurt Holmes is putting together a task force composed of students, faculty and staff to consider future uses for those spaces. “I’ve heard suggestions ranging from hot tubs to faculty apartments,” he says.

We give President Cornwell an April Fools’ A+.
