Punk the Student Day!

Yet another pivotal election today, and you know what that means: It’s time to punk the youth vote!
At liberal Grinnell College in Iowa, 50 students’ registrations are being challenged because of address confusion. As in, these voters put down one campus address instead of another. Does this make sense? To the Republicans trying to keep […]

Obama in a Landslide!

At least according to college newspapers. A mind-blowing 59 of them have hopemeister Barack Obama as their pick, as opposed to a single lone rebel voice for John McCain (the Daily Mississippian).
To be fair, though, this is a bit like polling Slate staffers.

U Kentucky Strings Up a Fake Obama

The University of Kentucky gets the dubious distinction of being the first college south of the Maxon-Dixon line to hang possible-future-president Barack Obama in effigy. Ironically, the display was first discovered by a guy named Lynch:

Mike Lynch, a faculty member who works in a building near where the effigy was found, said he saw it […]

Will College Kids Vote in the Old Man?

Bless their hearts, College Republicans haven’t given up — they still believe they can tilt their campuses, especially in all-important states like PA and FL, to John McCain. Still, these hopeful youngsters understand they have a hard row to hoe:

And they are supporting a candidate at some odds with the young: Mr. McCain voted for […]

Updates on Two Youth-Vote Stories!

Friday is a day of resolution. First we learn that Ashley “Barack-O-Lantern” Todd, about whom we wrote earlier today, has confessed to lying to the cops. Nobody held her down, groped her, and carved a “B” into her face with a dull knife. Now she gets an “A” for honesty, and a backwards “F” for […]

Election Gets Grizzly at WCU

Someone killed a 75-pound bear cub, decorated it with Obama signs, and left it on the campus of Western Carolina University for people to find. So far the reaction has been along the lines of “Ew, gross!”:

“But this is certainly unacceptable,” Johnson said. “Someone evidently was wanting to draw attention to the election. If we […]

Colleges Find Perks in Hosting Debates

It takes over $4 million and an enormous amount of planning to host a presidential debate on campus, so why do colleges like Belmont, Ole Miss, Hofstra and Washington University do it? According to The New York Times, they do it for the publicity — tens of millions of dollars worth of publicity, in fact. […]

Hofstra’s Turn in the Spotlight!

Hofstra University on Long Island has spent millions of dollars preparing to host this third and last presidential debate of this never-ending election and today it is more excited than a 14-year-old when Gossip Girl is about to come on. The looming debate even influenced curriculums:

In anticipation of the debate, the university has been offering […]

More Reports that Young Voters are In the Tank for Obama

Yet another “Kids prefer the young biracial hopey guy to the angry old veteran” article is making the rounds. This one zooms in on Penn State where enthusiasm is through the roof for the Dems:

This is Barack Obama territory. “There is so much information out there and so little time left,” said Tiernan Milliman, 18, […]

Young Voters Like Obama for Change, McCain for Secrets

A new Gallup/MTV/USA Today poll looks at the college-aged demographic and finds things both obvious and bizarre. The obvious:

They prefer Barack Obama, both as an alternative to John McCain, but also as the candidate who is the most likely to understand their problems and to bring positive change to their own lives. Casting a ballot […]
