BYU Student Sex-communicated

Forgive the ex-communication pun…we just so rarely have a chance to break one out. According to the AP, Brigham Young University is withholding the diploma of Chad Hardy, the young man who published the “Men on a Mission” calendar featuring sexy Mormon ex-missionaries sans shirts. Why would a college be so down on a young entrepreneur ? 11,000 copies of the 2008 calendar were sold, and the 2009 version was just released on Thursday (a 2010 version is apparently being planned, tentatively titled “Hot Mormon Muffins”).
But by releasing “Men on a Mission”, Hardy violated any number of Mormon tenants, including, presumably, the one against novelty half-nude calendar shoots. He was ex-communicated from the Church of Latter-Day Saints in July and in September received a letter from BYU explaining there was a “nonacademic hold” on his diploma. The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that BYU officials told Hardy he could receive his diploma once he was back in good standing with the Mormon church. But Hardy seems content to be a part of the sexy-calendar world now, saying that he’s trying to break stereotypes about Mormons. After seeing pics of these dudes stripped all the way past their “sacred undergarments,” I can at least say I’ll never again has to ask where all the hot Mormons are.
