Americans Head to the UK for College Degrees

Apparently U.S. News and World Report was right in starting a global college rankings system. According to The New York Times, more high school students are looking abroad for college options than they were a decade ago because of lower education costs, the opportunity for new experiences and prestige. It seems as if Americans have an easier time getting into highly-regarded schools such as The University of Edinburgh than the average Scot because while locals pay little or no tuition, we’d pay the equivalent of out-of-state tuition — still significantly less than paying tuition at similar top-tier schools in the States.
Other perks of crossing the Atlantic? Scottish and English education models throw out standard general requirements American schools are known for with the understanding that you don’t have to be good at history to do chemistry. This allows students to dive right into studying the subjects they love the most. And of course, being an international student isn’t so bad with that whole drinking is legal at 18 thing.
