A Little Xenophobia Never Hurt Anyone

Those ticked-off Brits have had it with foreigners invading their country. First there were the Normans in 1066 and, more recently, expatriate students who settle in London, Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester, Brighton, Leeds, and even godforsaken Birmingham. But the Union Jack is cracking down on collegiate visitors. Foreign students who miss ten classes in a row will now be reported to the government. According to U.K. Border and Immigration Minister Liam Byrne, Great Britain means business: “All those who come to Britain must play by the rules. It is right that foreign students wanting to take advantage of our world-class universities and colleges must meet strict criteria.”

The crown–I mean, Parliament–is telling us the new legislation has to do with restricting illegal immigration, but we think they’re just tired of obnoxious Yankees who expect every Brit to drink tea constantly and have a butler. You know, the kind of guy who decides to spend time in England, not to learn about Shakespeare or monarchy but to invade local pubs without getting carded. To be honest, who can blame them? So much for trying to rally up the troops for a game of beer-pong at Ye Old Kings Head Tavern.
